ADHESIVE OF INCREASED ELASTICITY AND ADHESION
FOR FIXING MINERAL WOOL PANELS AND MAKING REINFORCED LAYER
IN External Wall Insulation SYSTEMS
FOR INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL USE
| AVAL KT 190 is a cement adhesive for fixing façade mineral wool boards and making reinforced layer in External Wall Insulation system. It can be used on typical mineral substrates such as concrete of all grades, aerated concrete, cement render, cement-lime render, sandstone, and rough surfaces made of bricks, blocks, hollow bricks and other similar ceramic or lime-sand materials. It is also suitable for surfaces covered with strongly adhering layers of façade paint or thin-layer render. It is suitable for internal and external use. |
 |
| AVAL KT 190 is a ready-to-use dry mix of top-quality cement binder, aggregates and modifying agents. It is efficient, convenient and easy to use. It is characterised by very good workability and easy forming as well as increased adhesion, elasticity and high vapour permeability. AVAL KT 190 is frost-resistant and water-proof. |
 |
| The substrate should be stable, even and structurally sound i.e. strong enough; it should be free from anything that may weaken adhesion, in particular dust, dirt, lime, oil, fat, wax, remains of emulsion and oil paint. Wash the whole wall with water under pressure. Before work commencement, prime the substrate using AVAL KT 17. Prime also in case of such substrates as weak cement plasters, cement plasters and walls made of cellular concrete or slag concrete hollow bricks. Fill in larger irregularities and cavities with AVAL KM 41 levelling mortar or AVAL KT 111 plastering mix. In case of adhesion of mineral wool boards on weak substrates of bearing capacity that can hardly be determined (e.g. dusty, difficult to clean), it is recommended to make an adhesion test. Adhere 10x10 cm insulation material squares (8÷10 pcs) in various places of the façade and check the bonding after 3 days. If the mineral wool square tears when trying to remove it, substrate resistance can be deemed as sufficient. If the square can be removed with the mortar and substrate layer, it means that the substrate is insufficiently structurally sound. Further actions in this case e.g. determination of the method to remove the weak layer should be described in a relevant technical project of the insulation. |

In order to prepare the mortar, pour the whole content of the bag into a container with suitable amount of water (in proportion: 5.50÷6.25 l water for 25 kg of dry mortar) and mix until homogenous.
It is best to mix it mechanically, using a drill with a mixer. The mortar is ready to use after 5 minutes and after remixing. It maintains its properties for ca. 2 hours. |

Panel fixing
In that kind of External Wall Insulation system, it is possible to use mineral wool boards of both disordered (so-called front boards) and ordered fibrous structure (so-called lamella boards). Float board surface with a thin layer of the mortar and after initial setting apply the proper layer using the “strip-point” method. The width of circumferential block around the edge of the board should be at least 3 cm. On the remaining surface, distribute evenly 6÷8 patches of 8÷12 cm in diameter. In total, apply so much to cover at least 40% of board surface (after striking down to the substrate, min. 60%) and ensure appropriate board and wall connection. In case of even and smooth substrates, it is allowable to distribute the mortar evenly with a notched trowel on the whole board. Immediately after application of the adhesive on the board, fix the board to the substrate and press down to required position. Begin fixing mechanical fasteners not earlier than 1 day after board fixing. Use the number of dowels with a galvanised metal arbour specified in the technical External Wall Insulation project, min. 8 pcs/m2.
Reinforced layer preparation
Begin preparation of the reinforced layer not earlier than 3 days after board fixing. The reinforced layer consists of a reinforcing mesh made of glass fibre set in AVAL KT 190.
Apply a thin layer of AVAL KT 190 on fixed boards.
After initial setting, apply another adhesive layer with a smooth float made of steel using 2/3 of the final quantity and distribute it evenly with a notched float. Set previously cut mesh strip in the mortar. First press it down in several spots in the applied mortar and then carefully cover it with the mortar using a notched float so that the mesh is not visible. Then, apply the remaining 1/3 of the mortar and carefully smooth the surface. If there are any irregularities after smoothing, grind them off as they may prevent correct plaster coating preparation due to its small thickness (2÷3 mm). After the mortar drying time (ca. 3 days), external render can be applied. AVAL KT 190 is a part of External Wall Insulation system. Mortar parameters can be fully applied if it is used with other parts of the system and in accordance with its method of application. The information comprises basic instructions of product application and do not relieve users of responsibility for work in accordance with good construction practice and OHS regulations. |

Mineral wool insulation board fixing - from 4.5 do 5.5 kg/m2
Reinforced layer preparation – from 5.5 to 6.5 kg/m2
The exact amount of adhesive used depends on the substrate (among others, evenness) and used board adhering method. |

| Drill with mixer, smooth and notched or float made of steel, trowel. Wash the tools with clean water directly after use. Clean the remainder of the set mortar that is difficult to remove with AVAL KL 55. |
